There are safety and healthy guidelines governing the utilization of forklift trucks. Any large equipment, such as a lift truck, is potentially dangerous and should be utilized safely. The regulations and rules state that the operator has to conduct daily inspections on the forklift and more thorough checks on a weekly basis and every month. The following inspections must be done on the lift truck:
Lift Truck Brakes - brakes on lift trucks are important features that must be double and triple checked. A brake check is done with various pedal heights and pressures to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights should be inspected at the same time.
The Tires - the tires are also essential to the safe functioning of the truck and to the braking system. All the tires should be checked properly to ensure they are inflated to the right pressure and that there are no punctures in the tires.
Controller - To know whether the system is in good working condition, the lift truck controller system has to be inspected by operating the forks and the release mechanism. Any hint of problems should immediately reported and tended to. The lift truck should not be used until the controller system has been fixed.
Steering Wheel - To make sure that the turning of the wheel is right, the driver must check the lift truck steering wheel. Forklift safety depends on the steering wheel responding well and working accurately. There are different types of checks which can be done to determine steering wheel performance.
Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine requires oil. The dipstick will show the colour of the oil and the level of the oil. The oil should be refilled if the level is too low. If the colour is off, there could be contamination happening.
Fire Extinguisher - lift trucks are required by law to carry a fire extinguisher. This fire extinguisher would have to be checked to ensure it would function correctly in case of a fire. Various types of fire extinguisher must be inspected in certain ways. Like for instance, a dry chemical extinguisher must be shaken.
