Wally Johnson, back during 1946, created the markets for both aerial work platforms and scaffold towers all by himself. He attained this by establishing a business which was known as UpRight. Mr. Wally Johnson was a really gifted mechanical engineer who resided in Berkeley, California. He stumbled upon access machinery when he began looking for a solution to painting his house.
Mr. Johnson found it hard to search for capable scaffolding when he started a house painting project. Current scaffolding was not able to handle the uneven terrain on his land. After being extremely discontented with his choices, he decided to design his own aluminum scaffold tower along with adjustable legs.
During that very same year, the Snorkel Company was founded within St. Joseph, Missouri. The company was responsible for introducing a revolutionary new elevating boom lift to the market. The machinery was made for firefighting and rescue work. In less than twenty years, the technology had developed into self-propelled boom lifts.
The first self-propelled lift was sold by Snorkel during the year 1977. This particular product line did not take long to become the company's main business.
Wallace Johnson rapidly catapulted to the top of the industry with his new scaffold. When he had attained this field, he decided to start all over and make the world's first self-propelled aerial lift.
Mr. Johnson during the year 1972, opened a factory within Selma, where he created the "Flying Carpet" scissor lift. After this exciting and new machine exploded onto the marketplace, the ground-breaking product soon out-ranked the scaffolding component as the company`s main source of income.
Wallace Johnson passed away in the year 1980. At that time, the company UpRight Inc. was sold but his inventive and pioneering spirit lived on. During the year 1994, UpRight introduced the first micro-scissor within the world. They went on to pioneer the TM12, that is the self-propelled mast lift.
