In 1949, the Liebherr family business was created by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his inexpensive and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this creation that the foundation of the company flourished under. Now, Liebherr has grown to become amongst the leading manufacturers in the field of construction equipment. The business has also gained the reputation of being the acknowledged supplier of user-oriented technically innovative products and services in a variety of fields. The company has currently become a "Group" working in each and every continent with over 130 companies and over 35,000 employees across the world.
In order to ensure a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into various company units. These units have been designed to operate independently. This specific set up enables the company the ability to be flexible to market signals and stay in tune with worldwide competition. Moreover, having so many individual company units also ensures customer proximity and keeps customer service operating at an optimum level.
The divisional control companies deal with the operative management of the sales companies and the production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group now encompasses 10 different product divisions.
Liebherr-International AG is the holding company of the Liebherr Group. They are situated in Bulle, Switzerland and are totally owned by members of the Liebherr family. At present, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr in the 2nd generation. Ever since the year 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by members of the family in the third generation including: Sophie Albrecht, Jan Liebherr, Patricia Ruf and Stefanie Wohlfarth. These members of the family have been working together to be able to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings all over the globe.
Hans Liebherr began to build his company in the year 1949, within a tiny town called Kirchdorf in southern Germany. Kirchdorf, now supports among Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They employ more than 1400 people in that particular workforce and are able to average an annual output of approximately 2800 wheeled excavators.
